As early as 2022, the Prime Minister noted that the Congolese education system presented significant challenges in the areas of access to equity, gender equality, improving the relevance and quality of learning, the adequacy of qualifying training to the needs of the national economy and the job market, the number and quality of teachers, many of whom are volunteers and untrained, and the intensification of violence in schools and universities. The aim was to build a social pact that was both participatory and inclusive for schools for the next five to ten years.
The curriculum changes came into effect for the 2022-2023 school year. This reorganization of the school curriculum affects science, mathematics, and French, according to the Minister of Preschool, Secondary Education, and Literacy.

With only two public universities, Marien Ngouabi University and Denis Sassou N'Guesso University, both located in the capital Brazzaville, Congo is struggling to contain the growing number of new students. The university is part of a vast movement to strengthen its training capacity, based on the establishment of training structures to promote professional initiation, the acquisition of knowledge and skills, in line with development needs and available or potential jobs.
A public university will also soon be established in Pointe-Noire. The construction of this university, which aims to meet the standards of the best universities in Africa, required the mobilization of land in Loango capable of accommodating administrative, educational and research infrastructure, buildings intended for university works, sports and leisure facilities for the use of faculties, higher education institutions, institutes and laboratories.
Meanwhile, the University of Liambou, a result of collaboration between the government and the Catholic Church of Congo, will be the first higher education institution of its kind located near the Pointe-Noire department. Its opening in October 2023 will address the problem of high school graduates migrating from the ocean city and its surrounding areas to Brazzaville.
